Adverts placed via the magazine will appear on the website when the magazine goes on sale.

If you have selected a magazine and website advertising package and requested a photo agent to photograph your vehicle, the advert will go live on the website within 24 hours. However, the photo will not be uploaded until the magazine goes on sale.

  5. How do I write a good advert?

  6. Auto Trader's sophisticated Place an online ad system will generate the basic body text of your advert for you. However, you are likely to want to add and edit certain details of your advert to make it more attractive to a buyer.

Pick out a few important features that make your vehicle a good buy, e.g. Low mileage, few previous owners, long NCT/Tax, anything you think will improve your vehicle's value.

If you choose a magazine package the advert text will be limited by the magazine style. However, you can edit the on-line text independently allowing for a longer, more detailed description on-line where space is not restricted.

Be realistic about price, asking over the odds will only mean you have to advertise again next week. Check the going rate for your vehicle. Car sellers can use our 'What's it Worth?' valuation tool.

Attach a photo, it'll make your advert stand out and you'll get a better response. Finally, be honest; lying about the condition of your vehicle will only waste your time and theirs.

Key points to include in your ad:
Colour, Mileage, Service history, Number of owners, Condition, NCT & road tax (if got them), Key features, Colour photograph.

  7. How do I attach a photo online to my advert?
